Almost not let into United Kingdom... forgot to print the letter that stated BU was where I was studying, but pleaded with the customs man and got in! LOL to my life.
Got a ride from the airport to Sorbonne House with a group of wonderfully nice girls from Brandeis. Had a mutual friend in common so we had that to chat about. We were also all terrified of driving on the opposite side of the road. When we got to Sorbonne and went to pay one of us made the ugly american mistake of asking how many dollars we owed. After that was squared away I was lugged my two suitcases down to the basement. Of course I barely fit the weight requirement, one bag of 70 lbs, one of 50 lbs. That is 120 lbs of clothes.... probably a ridiculous amount but whatever.
Expected bunk beds so to my sweet surprise we have a pretty decent sized room! It is four of us basement gremlin girls, but its some troll like fun.
On the first day after we all settled in, we were brought around Kensington and literally none of us heard the tour led by our RA because we were in the way back chatting. This will bite us in the ass, but has not yet so again whatever. We got some errands done by going to the grocery store aka Sainsbury. They literally have everything, leather gloves to champagne, to dog treats.
Later that night the four of us roommates headed to dinner at a Pub in Kensington where to our surprise they were watching American Football. Got a rump steak sandwich (noming thinking about it) and split a bottle of wine. Later headed to another Pub that was the same exact atmosphere but more expensive and closer to our flat. Oddly, Londoners listen to extremely American pop culture music, aka Kesha was blasting in this bar. By 9:30 I was falling asleep on my hand, so we headed back and passed out for the night.
9 am wake up call on Monday! Or better way to put it, 8:55 fire drill, 9:15 lecture series. EVIL! Despite getting the most amount of sleep I have ever gotten, I was sluggish. They scared us straight during the lecture about not embarrassing ourselves, getting deported, buying cocaine is a big no no, and then learned a little bit about the surrounding areas of London. Afterwards, we were starving so we headed to a Creperie. A bit pissed I thought a salad was a good choice, should have treated myself (dumbass). Did get some English Breakfast Tea though, god bless caffeine. Later we headed to Hyde Park area to pick up our phones and do some grocery shopping at Whole Paycheck, I mean Whole Foods. Lost our roommate Emily, lol.
On our way back from Whole Foods we were ever so lucky to get stuck in what felt like a hurricane. The wet rat look is super cute, so we got to sport that for like 20 minutes of walking home. Made some dinner in our mini basement kitchen, drank some wine/ hotty toddy's then headed out to the Imperial Bars. Imperial College is where the London students attend, so we went to explore their atmosphere. Jokes on us because none of them are back in school yet so we just met more BU program people. Still very fun, they serve double drinks (fuq yeah London).
Tuesday ended like every other night, in bed watching Netflix and eating some pretzels. Oh and Netflix across the pond rocks! Been watching British shows so the chance that I pick up an accent or their conversation mannerisms is very high!
Off to to the Thames River boat tour this Wednesday. Cheers to no one jumping ship hopefully!
